Golden Days with a Golden Dog

There's no-one to look out the window
Or under the blinds at the door...
Our Amber has flown off to heaven
And doesn't keep watch anymore...

No furball of gold on the staircase
No clicking of claws on the floor...
No collar tags jingle a welcome
Our Amber's not here anymore...

There's no puppy bowls in the kitchen
No leashes hung by the front door
An angel has no need for either
Our angel's not here anymore...

The walks after dark are alone now
The nights are no longer a friend
We walk without golden companion
Too soon our walks come to an end...

We donated all of her kibble
And cans of that canine gourmet
The pups at the shelter should love it
Just like Amber did in her day...

A storage box full of mementos
Her collar, her bowl and much more
All memories treasured forever
but Amber's not here anymore...

Its months now since Amber departed
Her spirit has gone far away
I hoped I'd still feel her warm presence
And pray that I'll feel it someday...
